2024 World Championships Regulations

The WBFSH International Young Breeder World Championships are hosted biannually with studbook teams of eight split in two age groups of 16-20 and 21-26 years of age (born 1998 – 2008) with three to four participants per age group; or alternatively lower numbers can compete as individuals.

Regulations

The competition includes four disciplines: Theory; Judging of conformation traits; judging of athleticism traits (loose jump and movement); and presenting a horse in hand.

    Theory

    Official language of the test is English and each associaton can enter questions into the official catalogue. The questions should concern the following topics:

    • Breeding
    • Feeding and Nutrition
    • Stable management
    • Health and Welfare
    • International Sport and Studbooks

    Judging of Conformation Traits

    Two horses conformation traits are prejudged, with their scores and a brief explanation of ‘why’ delivered by the judges to the competitors.

    The competitors then assess the ‘competition’ horses with the objective to match the judge’s scores as closely as possible.

    Judging of Athleticism Traits

    Two horses athleticism traits (loose movement and loose jump) are prejudged, with their scores and a brief explanation of ‘why’ delivered by the judges to the competitors.

    Presenting a Horse In Hand

    Horses are provided by the hosts for this discipline.

    The overall aim while presenting the horse is to demonstrate good judgement, presenting the horse at its best in stance, walk, and trot.

    Subtle use of the aids, good rhythm, and control are important.
